RENOVATION OF THE GIRONA CITY MARKET AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Girona / Proj.1992 | 1993

The original building designed in the post-war time by Ricard Giralt in 1942 was the object of numerous interventions with a detached overview that were always contrary to the original design. This fact coupled with the aging of the facilities and its setting made evident the need for a renovation of the whole set. The aim of the project is to boost the activity through the renovation of the whole complex, updating the facilities to make it more competitive and appealing, so the main actions developed by the project are a new image for the market, with the restoration of the existing facades adding a new roof that unify the set becoming a fifth facade that extends itself, creating a canopy that becomes part of the urban space and make evident one of the main entrances to the building. On the inside, all the technical elements are upgraded and a new stall design and setting is proposed, in order to maximize the efficiency of the commercial activity.
