REHABILITATION OF TWO HOUSES IN THE OLD TOWN OF GIRONA.

The site, located outside the walls of the Roman city and facing the Via Augusta, was an ancient necropolis, from which a burial has been found from the 2nd-3rd centuries AD. and preserved an old funerary kiln and remains of opus signinum . On the later construction, from the Carolingian period, medieval houses were built; one remarkably altered during the 19th and 20th centuries and the other almost extinct.

The project proposed the whole in relation to a new inner courtyard, a typological reference to the houses and palaces of the Barri Vell. He was forced to set back the façade of the street, so it was rebuilt, taking advantage of the existing stone openings and ending in a bay. The façades of Pou Rodó and the inner courtyard are new; this was made of exposed concrete, in continuity with the slab of the entrance porch. Existing materials have been used, such as stone slabs for the pavement of the courtyard or the ashlars and stones of the old walls. Traditional techniques such as glazed smooth stucco and colored plastering with washed aggregate have been revived.
